23 ARTICLE 9 – LEAVE PLANS (continued d) The teacher`s credits accumulated at the end of each year are not reduced. 4. A teacher may accumulate a credit of up to 50% for having served on the board or on one of its predecessors. (5) Teachers who have been absent for more than ten (10) consecutive school days in a year shall receive a tip of up to 2 percent in one year up to a maximum of 5 percent upon retirement. 6. The calculation of the old-age pension tip plan (i) The total percentage of credit to an employee`s account; (ii) The highest annual salary in the five years preceding retirement. Example: A. Teacher with 50% credit accumulation and salary of $80,000 in retirement: $80,000 x 50 = $40, B. Teacher with 20% credit accumulation and salary of $80,000 in retirement: $80,000 x $20 = $16, (d) (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) (j) The principal keeps or arranges to keep a record of credits for each year and credits accumulated to date.

In September of each year, each teacher receives a list of credits accumulated in the schedule as of june 30. The teacher has until October 31 to notify the Superintendent of Education and Staff Relations or to report a disagreement with the balance shown on the return. After this date, the balance will be considered correct and no changes will be made. It is the teacher`s responsibility to make a written application for pension benefits and provide proof that the application has been made and that he or she will receive a pension from the Ontario Teachers` Pension Plan Commission immediately after leaving the board. A partial year is prorated to the table above. This bonus will be paid in an amount in April following retirement or in June of the year of retirement if the board of directors is informed before December 31 of the previous year. In the event of the death of a teacher before or after retirement, but before receiving the benefits under this plan, these benefits will be paid to the estate. A retired teacher, as referred to in this plan, is interpreted as a person who is no longer employed by the board and who has applied for and will receive a pension from the Ontario Teachers` Pension Plan Commission immediately after leaving the board. The old-age pension is not a severance pay.

For greater certainty, a retirement benefit will only be paid to a teacher who retires from the board of directors and the teaching profession and not to a teacher who chooses to take the commuting value of his or her pension contributions 21 ARTICLE 9 – VACATION PLANS (continued d) Deductions (a) Entitlement to paid sick leave, An employee is required to provide, upon request, a certificate from a physician or dentist attesting that the teacher is unable to perform his or her other duties. (c) any case where the combined pregnancy and parental leave have been extended or where parental leave has been extended without parental leave does not result in the loss of accrued pension benefits, accumulated seniority or accumulated sick leave credits. In the event that a teacher withdraws sick leave credits from the account due to the negligence of another party and that teacher brings a civil action for damages, all funds received in lieu of the loss of salary due to such a claim will be returned to the Board and the Board will recredit the teacher of the appropriate number of sick days. 13. Items that are not eligible for sick leave: (a) absence is permitted if it is caused by: quarantine by a medical officer of health even if the teacher is not ill; the requirement to serve on a jury or in response to a subpoena to participate in a trial, provided that the teacher pays the commission all expenses, with the exception of travel allowances and living expenses received as a jury or witness; Copy exams or participate in one`s own diploma; the participation in the diploma of a spouse or child from a recognized secondary or post-secondary institution; or participation in the birth (1 day) and home/related care arrangements (1 day) of your own child. Such an absence shall not be subject to the teacher`s sickness benefit. (c) (d) Up to five (5) days of leave with pay shall be granted to any teacher employed by the Board who attends the funeral or performs related duties arising from the death of a member of the teacher`s immediate family ….
